Technology: South Korea urges use of Linux

South Korea is to promote the use of the Linux computer operating system in government departments. Currently 13% of South Korea's 27 million PCs run on Windows 98 - mostly in government offices. For the past year, the Ministry of Information and Communication, has been urging the use of Linux, to replace Windows 98.

Recently however, a meeting attended by the Ministry of Finance and Economy, the Ministry of Planning and Budget, the Ministry of Government Administration and Home Affairs and the National Intelligence Service, drafted plans to speed up the change-over.
