Telecommunications: Nepalese telco suffers loss after cut to services

Planet Guru reports that United Telecom Ltd, Nepal's first private telecom company and a joint venture with India, has suffered a loss of over $178,000 after its services were shut down by the government last week. Services were cut after the royalist government launched a crackdown to prevent opposition parties from holding a mass protest on Jan 20.

UTL's wave technology makes its phones enjoy limited mobility, meaning they can be used as mobile phones up to a certain distance.
