Art:Gauguin masterpiece sells for £12.3 million

A painting by French painter Paul Gauguin, Two Women, has sold for £12.3 million (approx US$21.4 million) during an auction at Sotheby's in London.

According to Philip Hook, senior director of Sotheby's Impressionist and Modern Picture department, the painting was "the most important" Gauguin,sold in Europe in the last 15 years.

The masterpiece depicts two semi-nude young Tahitian women sitting opposite each other by a violet wall.
