Canada's major banks want the federal government to reverse an election promise and lift the ban on banks marketing insurance through their branches.
During the election campaign, the conservatives pledged to "maintain the current regulations governing insurance marketing by the chartered banks."
Canada's Globe and Mail, quotes one banking sector official who seems to share my opinion: "We find it ridiculous frankly that there would be any prohibition on that. All we're doing is providing consumers with information and we believe the restriction on retailing through bank branches -- there is no policy logic whatsoever and it cuts off choice and access for consumers."
