Defense: Russia will only sell arms to Palestinian Authority, if Israel agrees

The Daily Star, reports that Russia has said it would only supply military hardware to the Palestinian Authority (PA) if Israel agreed. Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov said on television, "Supplies of military hardware to Palestine can only be carried out with Israel's consent and through its territory."

Russia had planned to sell the PA 50 armored personnel carriers (APCs) but these plans were put on hold after Middle East peace brokers told Moscow it could harm efforts to stabilize the area.

However, on Thursday Russian Armed Forces chief-of-staff General Yuri Baluyevsky said that the plan could be revived if a visit by Hamas leaders to Moscow planned for early March went well.
