Education: Sorbonne to open in Abu Dhabi

The prestigious French Sorbonne university, is to set up an outpost in Abu Dhabi. It is the first venture of its kind outside of France for the Sorbonne, whose landmark building in Paris was commissioned by Cardinal Richelieu in 1635.

According to an unnamed source, Abu Dhabi will invest $20 to 30 million dollars in setting up the university, which is expected to open in October. The curriculum will be secular and liberal arts-oriented with a focus on French language, history, geography, literature and philosophy.

France's Education Minister Gilles de Robien signed the agreement with his Emirati counterpart Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al-Nahyan.
