A press release from the great mans office announcing him as winner of the biennial Zayed International Prize for the Environment, failed to mention he received half a million dollars in prize money.
The jury voted unanimously for the United Nations Secretary-General. A jury that included the executive director of the U.N. Environment Program, Klaus Toepfer, and the U.N. undersecretary-general for Economic and Social Affairs, José Antonio Ocampo. Pakistan's ambassador to the U.N., Munir Akram, (formerly president of the U.N.'s Economic and Social Council) was an observer.
