Brazil's Health Ministry is to distribute 25 million condoms to promote safe sex during the Carnival holidays. The condoms, will be distributed at health clinics, public squares and dances. Last year the Brazilian government announced plans to distribute more than 1 billion free condoms in 2006.
Australia is doing something similar but on a smaller scale. The Western Australian town of Broome, is considering introducing "condom trees" around the town. Due to be introduced on Valentine's Day, the "trees" (PVC pipes filled with free condoms and placed in trees at popular gathering places for the town's youngster) are the idea of the Kimberley Public Health Unit and Broome Regional Aboriginal Medical Service.
