Human Resources: France adopts equal pay legislation

The French parliament has adopted a law guaranteeing equal pay for women. The bill sets a five-year target for eliminating pay inequalities and calls for more negotiations between companies and unions. However, it stops short of including any coercive measures. Instead, a national review, to be carried out in three years' time, will decide whether to introduce financial penalties for offending employers.

Currently French women earn around 20% less than their male counterparts.
