International Development: Vatican conference to encourage micro-credit for poverty stricken nations

The Catholic World News, reports that The Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace has organized a conference in Rome this week to encourage the development of "micro-credit" as a means of stimulating economic development in needy countries.

Opening the conference Cardinal Renato Martino the president of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, said that the Vatican hoped to stimulate recognition that micro-credit can be "an efficient instrument in the struggle against poverty," although he added that other steps would be necessary.

About 100 experts-- including politicians and entrepreneurs as well as financiers-- are participating in the conference, representing 30 different countries.

I guess the chances of the Vatican auctioning some of their artwork to help the needy, would be a bit too much to expect.

So far today, I have come across eight different conferences, promoting eight different ways to reduce poverty. Each claiming to be the "key".
