International Development: World Bank grants Nigeria $50 million to fight bird flu

The World Bank, has announced a grant of approximately $50 million) to help Nigeria combat bird flu.

Speaking to reporters in Abuja during the visit of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) Vice President, Mr. Lars Thurnel, Country Director, World Bank, Mr. Hafez Ghanem, said, "We have approval to support Nigeria to the tune of $50 million. The $50 million is with zero interest, service charge of 0.75 per cent and maturity in 35 years."

Lars Thurnel, also announced that the IFC has committed $500 million to the development of the Small & Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs) especially in the areas of agriculture, power and mortgage financing in Nigeria.
