International Development: Zambia bans export of surplus maize

Zambian President Levy Mwanawasa has told the country's Food Reserve Agency (FRA) to store enough grain before considering exporting any surplus from this year's harvest.

He also told local media that the government had made a mistake by exporting the 2004 farming season surplus maize that caused Zambia to face a serious food shortage in 2005 following a partial drought.
