Uzbekistan's state-owned Navoi Mining and Metals Plant, plans to commission the first $100-million stage of a gold mining complex at the Kokpatas and Daugistau fields in the central Kyzyl Kum in 2007.
The plant will eventually be capable of recovering 20 tonnes of gold from 5 million tonnes of ore per year.
The company decided not to involve foreign investors in the project in order to reduce costs.
