Retail: Argentina signs price deal with Asian-owned small grocery stores

Michael Casey, Dow Jones Newswires, reports that the Chamber of Autoservice Outlets and Supermarkets Owned by Chinese Residents in Argentina,(CASRECH) has agreed to a series of price freezes on select products as part of a yearlong accord.

The list of items included those that have been subject to prior government-brokered price freeze agreements signed by major food and consumer product producers and some additional items produced by small Argentine manufacturers.

The article provides an interesting look at how the Argentinean government is brokering agreements with the country's leading supermarket chains in order to keep down the price of the, "basic basket of goods."
