Trade: Cuba's FM claims US blockade inhibits Cuba's growth

Cuba's Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque, has said that the US economic and commercial blockade constitutes the largest obstacle to the development of Cuba.

Speaking at the 5th International Higher Education Congress 2006, he said that the damage caused by that over 45-year policy of punishment has amounted to $82 billion dollars and has prevented Cuba from exporting and importing products to and from the US.

He also - and quite rightly - condemned the double standard policy implemented by President George W Bush, "who boasts about democracy while he invades nations and tortures people in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the illegal naval base of Guantanamo."
