Aviation: Aeroflot buying rivals

Aeroflot is considering expanding operations by buying rival state-controlled airlines, a senior company official has said. However, Lev Koshlyakov, deputy chief executive officer at Aeroflot, denied reports that the move was part of a government plan to turn the airline into a virtual state monopoly.

"The formation of some kind of monopoly is not on the agenda," he said.
