Bilateral Relations: Algeria and Russia in $7.5 billion arms deal - Russia to wipe Algeria's debt

Following a visit to Algeria by Russian President Vladimir Putin, Algeria has signed an arms agreement with Russia, totalling $7.5 billion. The North African country is also planning to sign other contracts worth $2-3 billion. At the same time Russia will write off Algiers' debt currently standing at $4.7 billion.

Reuters quoted Sergei Chemezov, head of Russia's state arms exporter Rosoboronexport, as saying -

"Practically all types of arms which we have are included, anti-missile systems, aviation, sea and land technology."
