Defense: Irish defence forces accused of discriminating against short women

Ireland: Fine Gael's defence spokesman, Billy Timmins, has accused the Defence Forces of discriminating against women by having a 5'4" height restriction for female Defence Forces recruits.

Timmins said the limit is substantially higher than other military forces like the US army which is 4'10". He called for the Defence Forces to use Body Mass Indicator (BMI) as a better indicator to determine a candidate's suitability.
