When Mel came to visit from the US, she sussed out straight away that my apartment block is one of those quiet places where sound carries. Even when she first arrived, she took care closing the doors.
Yet people who have lived here years believe that a door is not truly shut unless the impact causes a tsunami off the coast of Thailand.
