Steel Industry: China considers dropping value-added taxes for the steel product tolling industry

Interfax, reports that the Chinese government is considering exempting value-added taxes for the steel product tolling business that uses domestic semi-finished steel products to discourage imports.

Fourteen leading domestic steelmakers have proposed the exemption to the State Council. Luo Bingsheng, the secretary general of CISA, also submitted the same proposal at a meeting with Premier Wen Jiabao. Qi Xiangdong, the vice director of the China Iron and Steel Association, told Interfax that relevant departments are doing research on the proposal.
