Interfax, reports that the Chinese government is considering exempting value-added taxes for the steel product tolling business that uses domestic semi-finished steel products to discourage imports.Fourteen leading domestic steelmakers have proposed the exemption to the State Council. Luo Bingsheng, the secretary general of CISA, also submitted the same proposal at a meeting with Premier Wen Jiabao. Qi Xiangdong, the vice director of the China Iron and Steel Association, told Interfax that relevant departments are doing research on the proposal.
