Chinese top legislator Wu Bangguo, has said that China is ready to work with Turkmenistan to "deepen pragmatic cooperation in the field of energy".
He made the remarks in meeting with Turkmenistan President Saparmurat Niyazov, who arrived here Sunday for a six-day state visit to China.
A joint statement signed following the talks between Chinese President Hu Jintao and Niyazov states: "The departments concerned will quicken their steps to study and implement China-Turkmenistan gas pipeline project...The Chinese enterprises are encouraged to participate in the exploration and development of the natural gas field in Turkmenistan."
Reference was also made to Turkmenistan's, "One China" stance: "We appreciate Turkmenistan's consistent support for China on Taiwan, Tibet issues and in fighting 'three forces'" (terrorism, splittism and extremism).
