Defense: Russia wont take sides in US-Iran war

Chief of General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces and First Deputy Defense Minister Yuri Baluyevsky, has said that Russia will maintain neutrality in a possible armed conflict between Iran and the United States.

Itar-Tass news agency quoted him as saying, "Unequivocally, and I'm saying it as chief of the General Staff,Russia will not be offering the use of its armed forces on either side". Baluyevsky was quoted by the .

In related news, he also announced that Russia will implement the contract to supply Tor-M1 air defense systems to Iran in full. He made the statement after his talks with James Johns, Supreme Commander of the United States and NATO forces in Europe.

"I'm sure this equipment is not strategic, but it is obvious that it will be delivered in accordance with Russia's international commitments in the nonproliferation sphere and under control by the appropriate bodies. I'm simply sure of it," he said.
