According to figures from the Central Statistical Office, Botswana's annual inflation rate reached a new 12-year peak of 17.7% in March, putting the country's formal 3% to 6% inflation target further out of reach.
In February inflation rose to 17% year-on-year from 16.6% in January. The central bank moved to raise interest rates for the second time in five months.
The central bank said it would stick to a short-term inflation objective of 4% to 7% as it works to reduce price pressures in the economy.
