Mining: World Bank grants Uganda $0.8 million for development of artisanal and small-scale mining communities

The World Bank has provided a $0.8m grant to Uganda's mineral development ministry for development of artisanal and small-scale mining communities.

Julius Nyakana, the deputy project coordinator of the Small Grants Programme (SGP), said, "The money for the SGP will be used to increase the productivity and incomes of the miners while supporting environmentally-responsible practices. The SGP aims at boosting diversification of economic development in zones of influence of mining activities."
