Steel: Tata Steel to set up manufacturing unit in Iran

Indian steel giant Tata Steel, has finalised plans to set up a manufacturing unit in Iran. Providing Iran is still standing, it is expected production will commence by 2009 with an initial capacity of two million tonnes.

Tata Steel Chief (overseas Project) Somdeb Banerjee, said "Most of the arrangements have been finalised, including gas and pellet supply for the plant from the government".

He told local media that the company has not yet taken a final decision as to whether it would go in for the plant on its own or with a partner, adding "But legal requirements in Iran may require us to go in with a partner".
