International Development" World Bank approves $1.5 million grant for Nigeria's nature reserves

The official News Agency of Nigeria, reports that the World Bank has approved a $1.5 million grant for the protection of three nature reserves in Nigeria's northern state of Bauchi.

Alhaji Nasiru Shehu, Bauchi State Project Coordinator, was quoted as saying that the project, under the Global Environment Facility, "is targeted at 30 communities around the Yankari National Park, the Lamebura Game Reserve and Maladumba Lake and Forest Reserve."

He said the communities would be expected to initiate environmental friendly programs and programs that would "enhance their livelihood and access to portable water."
