Media: SA's Deputy PM tells western media to report good news from Africa

South Africa's deputy president Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, has told the International Press Institute conference in Edinburgh that western media should lose its preoccupation with Africa as a continent newsworthy only for poverty and war.

He said it was time to look at some of the brighter news stories emerging from the continent.

Perhaps if African politicians actually did something for their countries instead of for themselves, their families and their cronies, western media may have some good news to report.
