Bilateral Relations: U.S. freezes assets of Belarus president

The United States has frozen the assets of Belarus' President Alexander Lukashenko. The assets of other government officials were also frozen.

Any assets belonging to Lukashenko found in the United States must be blocked and Americans are forbidden from doing business with him, the U.S. Treasury Department said.

Washington has claimed Lukashenko's victory resulted from election fraud and human rights abuses.
