Defense: Seventy seven Russian servicemen died in May

According to a report posted on the Russian Defense Ministry's website, seventy-seven servicemen died in Russia's armed forces during May.

The bulk of fatalities occurred due to accidents (28) or crimes (7). Seventeen troops committed suicide. Violation of traffic rules or operation of vehicles claimed the lives of 20 people. Five deaths were in Chechnya.

* Seven soldiers were killed in crimes committed by civilians.
* One serviceman died in an accident caused by negligence.
* Two servicemen died in hazing incidents.

According to the Defense Ministry, 1,065 troops died in 2005, and 354 have died since the beginning of this year.
