Social: Islamic opposition parties in Bahrain drop controversial marriage bill

According to the Gulf Daily News, the Islamic opposition parties of Bahrain have withdrawn their new marriage bill which included several measures aimed to make it extremely difficult for a Bahraini national to marry a foreigner.

The U turn was caused by mass criticism over the bill from the secular parliamentary majority and the local population.

The Islamic Block had recently been beaten in parliament over another controversial bill introducing amputation for thieves into Bahrain's new criminal code.
