Tourism: Ugandan minister calls for Chinese to be taught in schools

Uganda's newly appointed state minister for tourism, wildlife and antiquities, Mr. Serapio Rukundo, has proposed that Chinese be taught in schools and institutions of higher learning.

He made the proposal as Uganda hosted the first ten Chinese tourists in the country. "We need to learn some Chinese, some people in hotels and at the airport need to know the language," Rukundo said.

The East Africa Business Week reports that last April, Uganda and China signed a memorandum of understanding to undertake tourism partnership.
