Agriculture: Iran world's third largest walnut producer

Iran's Agricultural and Horticultural Research Center, has said that Iran is the world's third largest producer of walnuts.

According to the latest figures released by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Iran comes after the U.S. and Turkey in walnut production.

Mehrnews.com reports a program is underway to improve the quality of the walnut tree nuts as well as its timber. The Agricultural and Horticultural Research Center has collected the genotypes of the tree nuts and incorporated it in a large multi-site trail evaluating around 110 genotypes collected from various parts of the nation namely form Tehran, Hamedan, Kerman, East and West Azarbaijan provinces.
