Goodnight from Sydney

Tonight's photo: "Mandalay" a function centre at the start of my street.

I am planning a bit of a wine, cheese and music evening for tonight, (in about three hours from now to be precise!) so late this afternoon I popped along to my local supermarket to get a few supplies.*

A young mum and her little girl arrived at the end of the "Quick Checkout" queue at the same time as me. I could see that although cute, the little girl was "high maintenance" and assuming the mum would want to get out of the store ASAP, I stepped back and signalled for her to go ahead of me.

We exchanged smiles, "thank you" and "you're welcome" and waited for the queue to progress. I wasn't in any hurry and was quite content to let the line go at its own pace.

However, my calmness soon turned to panic as we neared the checkout tills and I heard the mum utter those words that strike fear in to the heart of anyone waiting behind them.

"Are you going to give the man the money?"

Aagh!

Anyone who has been stuck behind a little kid "giving the man/lady the money" in any sort of queue, will know what I mean. Personally I think they are practising to be little old ladies - but that's another sore point!

This time however things were a little different. On hearing the question, the little girl smiled sweetly, turned to me - and held a $10 note towards me!

Obviously she was too young to realise I'm management:)

* This is the supermarket, taken after I finished shopping. I was trying to hold the camera while holding shopping bagas at the same time! I know some readers and friends are fascinated by the fact that it is quite normal for dog owners to leave their dogs tied up outside while they shop. Here is an example of "little" and "large". And yes - the kids are wearing pyjamas and dressing gowns - another thing that is often seen!

Wherever you may be - be safe!

Tomorrow is Sunday and I wont be posting. However, on Monday, i On Global Trends, will reach a milestone. The final "news" post of the day will be the 3,000th post since the blog started in May 2005!
