Human Resources: Volkswagen to shed up to 6,000 jobs in Brazil

The Brazilian unit of German automaker Volkswagen, has announced that it was scheduled to cut 4,000 to 6,000 jobs through 2008. The layoff plan, a part of the company's restructuring efforts, is aimed at increasing its profitability and decreasing labor costs.

Volkswagen has five factories in Brazil with about 21,000 workers.
