Tonight's photo: This is what we in Sydney call - a bus. They are called other things but that's the polite version. I was able to take this photo as the driver was only five minutes late which meant he still had ten minutes left to read his newspaper.
Well I never. Just goes to show I am not too old to learn.
Thanks to the educational opportunities offered by television, I now know something grammar school and college failed to teach me.
Washington D.C. is the Capital of The World.
It must be true because that is what a Whitehouse official told the presenter of a travel program I was watching, when he showed her around Washington. I can't imagine anyone connected with the Whitehouse telling lies to the media, so I can only assume that my Welsh education was sadly lacking.
I was only taught that Washington D.C. was the capital of the USA. Of course, our geography teacher was probably a left-wing, pinko, liberal, anti-American, peacenik fascist and deliberately kept all the facts from us. Come to think of it, he used to like going to the theatre too, so that just about proves it.
"You are now standing in the Capital of The World, he proudly told her." Even she seemed surprised and she was American.
Cute little thing too she was. Obviously the beneficiary of the all important college education as she seems to know the right questions to ask. When she did the program from Sydney and was shown the damage caused by bushfires in the Blue Mountains, she asked why the trees were all black. Maybe she thought the Capital of The World, had liberated us.
The last few days I have forgotten about the "Song Snippet" feature I recently introduced into the "Goodnight from Sydney" post, so tonight I will start again. I really have no idea why I chose this one:)
We'll save Australia
Don't wanna hurt no kangaroo
We'll build an All American amusement park there
They got surfin', too
Boom goes London and boom Paree
More room for you and more room for me
And every city the whole world round
Will just be another American town
Randy Newman - Political Science. Good job Randy Newman wrote that bit about London and Paris and not Yusuf Islam, (Cat Stevens)!
Wherever you may be - be safe!
