International Development: U.S. grants Ghana $547 million to fight poverty

The United States has granted Ghana a $547 million grant to help fight poverty.

The grant was awarded under the U.S. government's Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), aimed at rewarding good governance in the developing world

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said: "Today represents a great achievement for the people of Ghana and their Government," describing the aid program as "the largest and by far the most ambitious to date" for the MCC.
