Middle East Conflict: Germany ready to send 1,200 military personnel

Germany is reported to be willing to send over 1, 200 military personnel to join the UN peacekeeping mission in southern Lebanon.

German media reported the German navy was preparing frigates and speedboats to safeguard the Lebanese coast. The air force will also be involved to prevent weapons smuggling by Hezbollah militants.

German Defense Minister Franz Josef Jung said "German soldiers have to be prepared against the will of ships' captains to board shops suspected of smuggling weapons."

As posted earlier, Germany will not be sending ground troops.
