Italy has put 13,664 "sensitive" sites under permanent protection from possible terror acts. The details were given by the interior ministry in a report published yesterday.
Protection of 1,272 sites, including airports, was boosted last week after British police moved against a group that was allegedly plotting to blow up US-bound passenger jets.
According to AFP during its anti-terrorism operation over the past year, Italy's security forces have identified 82,752 people, among whom 1,508 were subject to thorough checks and 618 were arrested.
