Sri Lankan Conflict: Aid agencies appeal for "humanitarian corridor"

Major aid agencies in Sri Lanka have made a joint appeal for a "humanitarian corridor" to ensure safe passage of civilians, aid workers and relief items to ease the plight of the mainly Muslim population of Trincomalee's Muttur town. Fierce fighting in the town has left at least 22 civilians dead.

The International Committee of the Red Cross has failed to get relief to thousands of civilians trapped in Muttur. ICRC spokesman Sukumar Rockwood said the Red Cross had sought security guarantees from government and the Tamil tigers to allow it to reach civilians, but none had been forthcoming.

It seems that in the Cliche Popularity Contest, sadly, "Roadmap to peace" has been replaced by "Humanitarian Corridor".
