Entrepreneurship: No plans for Saudi to have separate industrial cities for women

According to a report in a local daily, Saudi Arabia is not considering separate industrial cities for women.

Adnan A. Al-Naeim, assistant secretary general for internal affairs of the Eastern Province Chamber of Industries (EPCCI), was quoted as saying, "The public sector and chambers of commerce and industry are not keen on setting up exclusive industrial areas for women. What has been generally envisioned is the establishment of industrial cities that will cater to both men and women entrepreneurs."

He added, "That vision or plan of industrial cities catering to both women and men, however, has not even taken off, so we see no possibility of establishing exclusive industrial estates for women."

Saudi business women have said that if they are to actively participate in the economic development of Saudi Arabia, they should be given exclusive industrial sites of their own.
