Goodnight from Sydney

Tonight's photo: Another repost - a Chatswood street scene.

Now don't get me wrong - I like Americans and I like American singers; but why is it that so many new Australian bands and singers, (especially country singers) try to sing with American accents and use American terminology?

It's bad enough when they sing normal songs, but when they start singing about Wollinbilly and dogs and utes, in an accent that sounds more Bronx than Bronte, that's where I draw the line.

I am sure Americans would feel the same in reverse. How many people from the Bay Area, would rush out and buy, "Crikey - I left my heart in San Francisco"? or "Strewth, I was only 24 hours from Tulsa." Would Americans get all weepy over, "By the time I get to Phoenix she'll be rising, she always was a lazy cow"? I think not.

Keep Australian music - Australian! While you are at it - keep it out of earshot too - especially "True Blue," the God awful anthem for wearers of flannel shirts.

Wherever you may be - be safe
