Middle East Conflict: Italians hampered in southern Lebanon - "we don't want to turn over our land for nothing"

Italian peacekeepers in southern Lebanon are being hindered by local lawmakers.

The Italian troops want to set up a camp in Juwaya, but local politicians say they had agreed in 1978 to allow for bases to be built on the town, but have not been paid by the United Nations. Once bitten, twice shy.

Sari Allah, the mayor of Juwaya, told reporters, "People don't have any confidence in the government. Here we are businessmen - and we don't want to turn over our land for nothing."
