Middle East Conflict: Philippines wont be part of international peacekeeping mission in Lebanon

The Philippines government has announced that a shortage of soldiers has forced the Philippines to opt out of the international peacekeeping mission in Lebanon.

Jesus Domingo, director of the foreign affairs department's United Nations and International Organization Division, said the decision was reached after consultations with the military.

Domingo pointed out that the military has already reached its maximum capacity for deployment of peacekeepers overseas.

There are almost 600 Filipino peacekeepers in Haiti, Burundi, Ivory Coast, Afghanistan, Libera, Sudan and East Timor.
