Tariffs: EU punishes Chinese and Thai plastic bag exporters

The European Union will impose five-year tariffs on plastic bags from China and Thailand.

The duties of as much as 28.8% are to punish Chinese and Thai shopping-bag exporters for selling in Europe below domestic prices or below the cost of production, a practice known as 'dumping.'

The levies also target garbage bags. The EU decided against taking any action against Malaysia as they considered any dumping by Malaysian exporters was too minor to punish.
