Bilateral Cooperation: Russia moves into Zimbabwe

Russia and Zimbabwe have initiated five agreements for projects in Zimbabwe's power, aviation and mining sectors. The agreements are potentially worth $300 million.

A 48-member Russian trade mission has spent a week in Zimbabwe seeking opportunities in mining, transport, power, tourism and telecommunications.

Reuters reports that Rusaviatrade is expected to upgrade an airport in southern Zimbabwe close to where Mozambique, South Africa and Zimbabwe are developing wildlife sanctuaries on their common border.

Other projects include boosting Zimbabwe's power capacity, raising coal output at the Hwange Colliery Company, developing a rail link between the capital Harare and a satellite town and marketing local tourist resorts.
