Goodnight from Sydney

Tonight's photo: This was one of my attempts at experimental photography. It's actually my kitchen sink.

Just how difficult it is it to shut an apartment door without slamming it?

Is there a minimum number of brain cells needed to enable residents in an apartment building to shut a door in a manner that does not give the poor bastard living above them, a heart attack every time they go in and out?

It seems not.

I blame the government myself. Neither the state government nor the federal government have invested enough money in training people to shut doors quietly.

What we need is of course is a working party of experts to come up with a road map to peace. Nothing can be achieved in this country without a working party and a prolonged period of debate.

I strongly recommend that a working party made up of academics; social workers; psychologists; retired judges and clergy, be set up to thrash out the framework for a National Summit on door slamming.

Of course it is not just the government to blame - schools and parents should also shoulder responsibility. So let's include representatives of the teacher's union; parents and citizens groups; child psychologists and world-renowned education gurus.

While we are at it, we may as well have the Salvation Army; RSL; feminist organisations; gay and lesbian groups and the greenies, having their two cents worth as well.

Once the working party and National Summit have presented their findings; talk-back radio and Naomi Robson have discussed it non-stop for three months and John Howard cleared it with George Bush, the government should take immediate steps to implement their recommendations.

For to sit back and do nothing would represent a threat to this great nation of ours. After all, door slamming is Un-Australian- it is not what our fathers, grandfathers and great-grandfathers fought for.

In the meantime, I have my own ideas about teaching people to close doors quietly. I will let you know just as soon as soon as my parole is granted.

Wherever you may be - be safe!
