Goodnight from Sydney

Tonight's photo: Chatswood street scene

Just a short final post on this sizzling Sydney Saturday, (over 100 fah). Two items that may make you want to say, "Huh?"

John Cleese of Fawlty Towers fame, was asked for his autograph by a Sydney hotel receptionist. After gladly signing, the same receptionist asked him for ID before accepting his credit card.

Sydney's leading Muslim cleric Sheik Taj el-Din al Hilaly, spoke on TV a couple of weeks ago about how important it is for immigrants to Australia to learn English. He was speaking in Arabic and his speech relayed to the audience by a translator.

Unlike many in Sydney, (and virtually none of Sydney's mass media) I actually quite like the Sheik. He is more reasoned than many uniformed people give him credit for. But needing the aid of a translator does little to help convey his message!

Wherever you may be - be safe!
