Goodnight from Sydney
Tonight's photo: Local community board
For somebody who deals with "change management" I have to confess that when it comes to music, for years I have been unable to adapt to changing trends and styles. As far as I was concerned I could pinpoint the day the music died as Dec 31, 1979.
However, I started getting a little bored playing the same music I have heard since I was knee-high to a stunted grasshopper and decided to explore what I would call, "new music".
I started my learning experience by experimenting with hip-hop, but after a while each song started to sound the same. I did like one particular song, (Riding Dirty) until Mel told me it was about. Even when I read the lyrics I still needed an interpreter!
I then started listening to other styles of "new music" and discovered that although I would normally prefer the slower styles of singer-songwriters, some of the new stuff was actually pretty good.
Unfortunately when I hear a song l like, more often than not my radio station doesn't say who it is. Maybe that's just as well because on one of the rare occasions they did, I was horrified to find it was Britney Spears!
"Dance Music" sounds great with headphones but after three or four songs back-to-back I am totally shagged out - and I'm not even dancing!
For those of you who may be interested in, "What I am Listening to" I have recently downloaded the following -
Robbie Williams (I had never heard any of his records until last week) - Rudebox
Cascada - Every time we touch
Gnarls Barkley - Crazy
Justin Timberlake (never heard any of his work until last month) - Sexy Back
Pink - Stupid Girls; Family Portrait
Rogue Traders - Watching me watching you
TV Rock feat Seany B - Flaunt It (Now that I could dance too!)
Shakira - Hips Don't Lie (I know mine don't - they tell me the truth every time I try to get out of bed!)
Blue October - Hate Me
Fergie - London Bridge; Fergielicious (I had never even heard or seen the Black Eyed Peas)
Nelly Furtado - Promiscuous
Yes, I know I used the phrase, "never heard" three times in the above - but you try coming up with suitable variations at 8:30 on a cold Sunday night! Anyway, I am in a hurry - I have the American Top 4o with Ryan Seacrest to listen to!
With a bit of luck they may have some James Taylor.
Wherever you may be - be safe.
