Oil and Gas: Turkey calls for increased security at Kazakh oil field following ethnic fighting

The Turkish Foreign Ministry has announced that it has been closely following the "sad incidents" that took place between Kazakh and Turkish workers at the Tengiz Chevron oilfield in western Kazakhstan.

Clashes between ethnic Kazakh and Turkish workers began at a canteen when a Kazakh employee tried to get his food before Turkish workers. The brawl left 140 injured forcing a temporary halt to operations on an expansion project. However, officials said did not affect operational oil facilities.

The Foreign Ministry said in a written statement that the Turkish Embassy in Almaty, is in contact with Kazakh officials and has demanded heightened security precautions at the oilfield.
