Women's Issues: Iran chooses Cafe Transit as Oscar contender

Iran has chosen a film defending women's rights as its official contender for next year's best foreign film Oscar.

Cafe Transit, centres on a recently widowed woman who is forced to fight off the affections of her brother-in-law, who according to tradition is expected to take her as a second wife.

Iran's Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, reportedly censored scenes in which Zakhariyo (Nikos Papadopoulos) and Reyhan (Fereshteh Sadr Orfani) "make romance".

I am not quite sure if a review in IMDB does too much to advance the cause of women's rights - "What really separates Cafe Transit from other worthwhile Iranian movies is the way it depicts Reyhan's skills at cooking"
